Important Moving Info:
- If move is from a DOORMAN building please make sure you find out the times and days moves and/or deliveries are permitted (usually 9am-4pm, sometimes no weekends or holidays allowed). Also, inquire where the service entrance is so we can park our vehicle there and reserve the service elevator for our scheduled time. Please ask if there is a flight of stairs that leads to the service elevator as some buildings make you go through the basement to access it.
- If you are buying a large sofa or other large furniture item please get its dimensions so you can verify that it will fit in your elevator or through your door, stairway or hall. Some apt doors are across from a hallway wall, make sure that there is adequate distance to angle the large item into your apt. Also check to make sure that it will fit in your elevator. During busy season, we deliver at least one couch a week that never gets into a client's apt.
- Please don't pack your belongings in shopping bags as it's time consuming to load/unload and easily break or spill. Use thick large plastic garbage bags to consolidate smaller items and they are excellent for moving clothes too. Also, if you have many shoe boxes or other small sized boxes, please tie or tape them together!
- Please tape your boxes closed to make sure nothing will fall out during transit. It also makes it easier to carry as the tape reinforces a box from buckling. Also tape furniture with doors or drawers so they don't open and accidentally break.
- Please do not pack large boxes with heavy items such as books and CDs as this makes them unmanageable on stairs and causes unnecessary fatigue for all. Books and other heavy items should be in 16x13x13" boxes or thereabouts and lighter items should be palced in 18x18x16" boxes. Please alert us of any large boxes as space may be limited depending on the vehicle we feel is right for your move. Try not to use wardrobe boxes as they inefficiently store clothing and take up too much space. Use 33 gallon or larger lawn/contractor bags and place your clothes in them the way Dry Cleaners do when returning clean clothes.
